Wider footpaths with trees and activity will draw more people to Sydney Road.

Sydney Road’s footpath is one of the narrowest in all of Melbourne. During peak times the footpath is at capacity and pedestrians are forced to walk into dangerous traffic. Sydney Road lacks any trees or open space to draw in shoppers, while clearways make the street an unpleasant place to be. 

The days of dangerous clearways destroying the street for pedestrians every afternoon at 4pm will be over. Our plan will widen Sydney Road to 4.6m creating plenty of room for a more popular Sydney Road. We also advocate for central painted islands like on Smith St and Brunswick Street to make crossing safer.
